A lot can change over the course of life insurance policy term.

In most cases, life insurance cover can remain in place and will not be affected if you move abroad. However, this can differ amongst insurers, so it would be a good idea to read the Key Facts Document of your chosen insurer and/or give them a call directly for further information and clarification.

How might my cover be affected if I move abroad?

Some providers only allow cover for people who are permanent UK residents. This means if you pass away whilst living abroad, your family could be denied a payout.

Even if your provider covers you overseas, there are still factors to consider.

For example, moving to a country that’s considered dangerous could have negative effects on your cover. You may even need to be in a country specifically listed by your insurer in order to make a claim on certain policies. Also, other countries have inheritance rules that could impact the payout of your policy.

As always, if you have any questions regarding your policy you should consider speaking with your insurer directly and they will be able to provide support and further information.
