The fee applicable depends on the product you are looking to arrange through Cavendish Online.
When applying for life insurance via the Cavendish Online website, you have two options:
1) With a £25 fee - By charging a one-off fee of £25 Cavendish Online asks all providers to rebate all the commission normally paid to a broker. This makes it possible to offer the lowest possible life insurance premiums in the UK.
2) No fee (Commission Based) - If you prefer, you can choose our No Fee option and we will instead take a small percentage of commission, paid to us by the insurance company. This is usually suitable for short term or low premium policies or if you think you'll change your insurance in the next few years.
When you carry out an online quote you will see prices for Fee Based and Commission Based, wherever possible.
If you apply through our telephone-based Guidance or Advice services:
No fee is payable. However, if you did take out a policy through this route then we would receive commission from the Insurer. We request a lower percentage of commission resulting in lower premiums for our customers.
Head to Our Fees page for an overview of the fees and charges on all of the products and services we offer.
This may be the most frequently asked question from customers.
Cavendish Online only charges a small one-off fee for processing your application when you go through the 'fee-based' option through our website.
Alternatively, those who choose the 'no-fee' option on our website, or apply via our guidance or advised teams over the phone do not have to pay a fee. Instead, our team will recieve some commission from the product provider for the work they do on your behalf - a large proportion of this is sacrificed to bring costs down for you.
Due to the number of people using Cavendish Online to make significant savings, we are able to continue to offer this unbeatable service and continue to grow.
We don’t spend much on advertising and marketing and rely on recommendations from our customers, industry experts and word of mouth. Therefore, if you know someone who can benefit from our service, please let them know and help them save.
To apply for certain products through Cavendish Online, we will need money laundering identification.
We will need to see original or certified* documents to prove your identity and your address. If you are applying for a joint product, we will need to see identification for each of you.
A passport or UK driving licence would be suitable as proof of identity.
For address verification, we suggest a recent bank statement or utility bill (dated within the last 3 months, mobile phone bills are not accepted) these documents must have been posted to your home address, we can’t accept any documents that have been printed from the internet. If you don’t have a bank statement or utility bill, then we can accept your passport to verify your identity and your UK driving licence to verify your address.
*A certified copy is where a person of authority (solicitor, teacher, director, post office clerk etc) endorses a copy of the original document stating that it is a true copy of the original document. They will need to sign and date the document including their name and position. The person certifying the document must not be related to you, be in a relationship with you or living at the same address.
Our model is quite different to other discount brokers as with our online quotes we sacrifice all commission normally paid to a broker by the Insurer. In lieu of commission we charge a one-off fee of £25 to our customers.
The result, on average, is that we are able to provide quotes that are around 30% cheaper compared to a commission model. The monthly savings quickly add up to a lot more than the initial one-off £25 fee and this is the reason our service gets recommended.
We were the first broker to operate in this way and have successfully been helping our customers save money in this way for many years.

A lot can change over the course of a life insurance policy term.
Usually, life insurance cover can remain in place and won’t be affected if you move abroad. However, this can differ between insurers. It would be a good idea to read the Key Facts Document of your chosen insurer and/or give them a call directly for further information.
How might my cover be affected if I move abroad?
Some providers only allow cover for permanent UK residents. This means if you pass away whilst living abroad, your family could be denied a pay-out.
Even if your provider covers you overseas, there are still factors to consider.
For example, moving to a country that’s considered dangerous could have negative effects on your cover. You may even need to be in a country specifically listed by your insurer to make a claim on certain policies. Also, other countries have inheritance rules that could impact the pay-out of your policy.
As always, if you have any questions regarding your policy, you should speak with your insurer directly and they will be able to provide support and further information.
Being a houseperson or stay at home parent is arguably one of the hardest jobs out there, and you do it for free!
Many families only think of protecting the earner when they think about insurance, but there is also a financial vulnerability if the houseperson becomes ill or dies. There may be a need for the earner to step back from work, or to reduce hours, meaning less income into the household, or there may be a need to hire childcare or cleaning services so the earner can continue work. In short, what would your family need to help them continue the same standard of living if you were to pass away?
